This piece is based on the events of Pentecost as recorded in Acts 2,
as the Holy Spirit came to the disciples gathered in Jersusalem, and
the Church began its life.

Text:

At Pentecost, Christ's friends--awaiting it--
heard roaring wind, while tongues like fire split,
till kindling flames upon all heads alit.
Alleluia!

For Christ's apostles--Galileans each--
that roar of Spirit then outpoured as speech.
So Christ as Lord in ev'ry tongue was preached!
Alleluia!

Yet fresh'ning wind, O Spirit, enter in.
Ignite and brighten lives for Christ again.
Be deepest breath to sing our Lord's Amen!
Alleluia!

Musical Details:

We offer this first as a congregational hymn.
The tune is adapted from ENGELBERG by Charles V. Stanford (1852-1924),
so you may already have accompaniment resources which could work.
However, one copy of our specific arrangement (with one rhythmic change and different harmonizations) is available for free by downloading the "Full Hymn"
files above. We have just added a version that is more for organ.

To use with your congregation, download the "Melody and Text" or
"Text Only" file for copying into your service bulletin or to make
slides for projection.

The license fee for one-time use of text (or text and melody) is $15.00.
To make permanent slides or paper copies for reuse, the fee is $30.00.
